The Numericable webmail no longer exists as a standalone infrastructure since the migration to SFR that took place starting in July 2019. The address in @numericable.fr remains functional, but it now relies on SFR’s mail servers. Understanding this architecture is the first step to diagnosing an access or reception problem.

IMAP and SMTP settings for Numericable webmail on the SFR infrastructure

The historical server imap.numericable.fr (port 993, SSL) continues to respond to requests, but it redirects to the SFR infrastructure. When configuring on a third-party mail client (Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail), we recommend using the SFR settings directly to avoid a layer of redirection that lengthens the synchronization delay.

For IMAP reception, the server is imap.sfr.fr on port 993 with SSL/TLS encryption. For SMTP sending, the server is smtp.sfr.fr on port 465 with SSL/TLS. The identifier remains the full address, including the @numericable.fr suffix.

If you are still using the old Numericable settings and synchronization is working, there is no urgency to change the configuration. However, as soon as a malfunction appears (abnormally long reception delay, authentication error), switching to the native SFR settings resolves the majority of cases.

For those looking for a solution to fix Numericable webmail, the starting point is often here: an outdated server configuration that causes silent errors.

Authentication errors on webmail.sfr.fr: precise diagnosis

Access to the webmail is done via webmail.sfr.fr or mail.sfr.fr. Both URLs point to the same interface. The login form accepts @numericable.fr addresses as the native identifier.

Three technical scenarios cause a recurring connection refusal.

Email password different from client area password

After the migration, the webmail password and the SFR client area password are distinct. Many users try to log in with their client area credentials, which systematically fails. The reset must target the email password, accessible via the “Forgot password” link on the webmail login page, not the client area password.

Recovery number on 2G/3G network being phased out

The reset procedure sends a code via SMS to the phone number associated with the account. Arcep confirms that the phase-out of 2G and 3G networks is underway, and the number of devices limited to 2G has significantly decreased in a year.

If your recovery number is associated with an old device that only supports 2G, the verification SMS may never arrive. Ensure that your recovery phone works on a 4G or 5G network before starting the procedure.

Browser cache and expired cookies

The SFR webmail uses session tokens stored in cookies. A corrupted cache causes a redirection loop on the login page, without an explicit error message. We observe that this issue particularly affects Firefox and Chromium-based browsers after a major update.

  • Clear the cache and cookies specifically for the domains sfr.fr and numericable.fr, not the entire browser
  • Test the connection in private browsing to isolate an extension conflict (ad blocker, password manager)
  • If the connection works in private browsing, disable the extensions one by one to identify the one that interferes

Lost filters and email rules after Numericable migration to SFR

SFR transferred emails, contacts, and calendar during the migration. Not all reception rules and custom folders survived the process. This is a point that generic guides rarely mention in detail.

Filtering rules, signatures, and redirects must be recreated manually in the SFR Mail interface. There is no automatic import tool for these items. If you had complex filters (sorting by sender into subfolders, redirecting to a backup Gmail address), plan to reconstruct them one by one.

For folders, check that your custom subfolders appear in the SFR webmail hierarchy. In IMAP, folders are synchronized server-side, but a folder created locally in an old client (Outlook Express, Windows Mail) without IMAP synchronization will not have been migrated.

Mobile configuration: SFR Mail app and third-party clients

The SFR Mail app is the most direct way to access an @numericable.fr mailbox on a smartphone. It natively manages authentication and push synchronization without manual server configuration.

On native mail clients (iOS Mail, Gmail Android), manual configuration remains necessary. The settings are identical to those described above (IMAP sfr.fr port 993, SMTP sfr.fr port 465). A common friction point: Gmail on Android attempts autodiscovery that fails with @numericable.fr. You must select “Other” as the account type, then enter the settings manually.

  • On iOS, go to Settings, Mail, Accounts, then “Other” to force manual entry of the servers
  • On Android with Gmail, choose “Other” when adding the account to bypass autodiscovery
  • Enable SSL/TLS encryption, not STARTTLS, which can cause intermittent errors on some public Wi-Fi networks

When to contact SFR support for a Numericable email issue

The Numericable technical support no longer exists. All requests go through SFR support, including for @numericable.fr accounts. The most effective channel remains the SFR online community for documented technical issues, and the customer service phone line for blocked accounts or hacking cases.

A blocked account after several failed login attempts usually unlocks within a few hours. If the blockage persists beyond 24 hours, a call to support is necessary to verify that the account has not been compromised.

Numericable webmail, despite its name, relies entirely on SFR. Any troubleshooting attempt that does not start from this technical fact risks going in circles between outdated settings and an interface that no longer recognizes them.
